Help Us Fill the Food Pantry ~ Did you know that each week Trinity hands out 12-15 bag lunches and 2-3 bags of food to the homeless or those temporarily unable to provide food for their families?  We need your help to stock the food pantry.  Clip this “coupon,” keep it with you when you shop and place your nonperishable food donations in the basket at the back of the church.  Thank you!

Answer the Call to Social Action ~ Jesus calls us to go forth beyond the walls of the church to respond to local issues in our neighborhoods and communities.  Do you feel a call to social action?  We need you!  Outreach Commission meets on the Second Tuesday of each month.  Come see how you can get involved!

Outreach Commission

The mission of Trinity’s Outreach Commission is to use our money and our hard work (sweat!) to help relieve suffering in our community.  Training our congregation to put their faith in action can be fun and filled with blessings.  Some of the projects we supported in 2005 include:

PROJECT MEND-A-HOUSE – This non-profit group performs home repairs for elderly and disabled people in the county.  A dedicated group helped build and finish a handicap ramp for a homebound nine-year old girl. Two Saturdays were devoted to refurbishing the Gray house, with generous gifts of time, talent and much needed materials from Richard and Stacy Lensis.

TRINITY PANTRY – We continue to stock the Trinity Pantry with emergency food for walk-in individuals and families in the Old Town area.  We provide daypacks with simple, no-preparation, ready-to-eat foods for a person to eat on the go. Additionally we provide easy-to-prepare meals for families with access to a microwave.  Ann Lyons is project coordinator.

ALTAR OF HOPE – Each year we collect food and money for complete Thanksgiving dinner baskets for families in our community who might otherwise not have a holiday meal.  The food is gathered around the altar on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and that afternoon church members help gather, sort and deliver the food.  This year Trinity donated enough for 25 grateful families. Rich Garon was project coordinator.

UN-TRIM-A-TREE – Our annual Un-Trim-A-Tree project was also a huge success.  We provided Christmas gifts and food gift certificates to 25 children from 11 local families.  Each child receives at least three presents and two pieces of clothing.  Raylene Russell is project coordinator.

OPERATION WARM HUGS -  We are already in the process of gathering coats to provide during the winter months.  We have expanded the ministry to offer toiletries, socks and underwear to people in need.  Raylene Russell is the project coordinator.

Trinity continues to give financial support to various area agencies including SERVE, Prince William Area Free Clinic, the ARC of Greater Prince William, Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry, Prince William Interfaith Care Givers, ACTS/Turning Points and Project Mend A House.  Members of the Outreach Commission are:  Cindy Brookshire, Kelly Harman, Debbie Harrison, Andy Harrover, Sharyn Henderson, Ann Lyons, Raylene Russell, Margaret Wheeler, George Younts.  We meet the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the library.  Everyone is encouraged to become familiar with our outreach ministries.  We really are making a difference in our community.
